Insurance coverage for dietitian services in PEI.
Good news — your health plan might help pay for your nutrition coaching.
Do Insurance Plans Cover Dietitian Services?
Most insurance plans in Canada offer coverage for registered dietitian services — you just have to know where to look.
Log in to your insurance portal, or call your provider. Ask: “Do you cover services from a Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist?” Confirm your annual maximum and per-session limit as this tends to vary from plan to plan.
Check whether your plan lists ‘Registered Dietitian’ or ‘Nutritionist ’ under your paramedical benefits. If you’re not sure what your plan covers, don’t worry — we’ve all been there. Call your provider and ask.
No coverage? Rude. But don’t give up — there are still ways to get reimbursed, from Health Spending Accounts to tax deductions.
Popular Insurance Providers:
Most major health insurance plans in Canada — from Sun Life to Blue Cross — offer some level of coverage for Registered Dietitian services. Each plan has its own rules, limits, and fine print.
Every plan is a little different, so it’s worth calling your provider to confirm exactly what’s covered — including whether they require a doctor’s referral, have annual limits and what they cover per-session.

How to Submit a Claim for Reimbursement:
STEP 1:
You pay for your session (or package) up-front, and submit your claims after.
STEP 2:
After each session, you’ll receive an insurance receipt detailing the session type, price paid, date, and your dietitian’s credentials (i.e name, registration number, etc.).
STEP 3:
Many insurance providers allow online submission via their portal or mobile app — fast and convenient. Upload or attach your receipt, fill out any required fields, and hit submit.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Single Sessions
Yup! If you’re listed as a dependent or spouse on someone else’s plan, you can totally use their coverage. Nutrition support is a team sport, after all — and if your partner’s plan wants to help you crush your goals, who are we to argue?
Absolutely. If you’ve got an HSA or FSA, you’re golden — they almost always cover Registered Dietitian services. Just submit your receipt the same way you would for any other health service, and you’re good to go.
Sometimes! Some insurance plans want a referral note from your doctor, others don’t care. Check your plan details or give your provider a quick call before booking.
Programs & Packages
You sure can! Since all my programs and packages include Registered Dietitian services, they’re eligible for reimbursement. The only catch? Most providers want receipts for each session, not the whole package at once — so you’ll get a dated receipt after every session to make life (and claiming) easy.
Yep — and that’s exactly how insurance providers prefer it. You’ll get a dated receipt after each completed session so your insurance company can process everything smoothly (no awkward “we need more info” emails).
Insurance only reimburses for completed sessions. So, if you cancel or don’t use a package in full, those unused sessions can’t be claimed. But don’t worry — I’ll help you stay on track so you actually use what you’ve paid for.
Nope — I don’t do direct billing. But don’t panic, reimbursement is super easy. After each session, I’ll send you a detailed receipt that includes everything your provider needs. You just upload it or email it to them, and voilà: money back in your account. Quick, painless, and zero waiting on hold with insurance.
